Tracy Cruz has been singing since the age of two. The R&B singer, songwriter, and recording artist has over 20 years of performance experience. She has released several albums of her own and has shared the stage and opened for major performers like Kenny Latttimore, Apl. de Ap of the Black Eyed Peas, Keke Wyatt and many others. She has won the Bay Area Black Music Awards for "Bay Area Rising Star" and "Best CD/Recorded Performance", and her music is regularly featured across the United States and on radio stations around the world. All of this makes her an excellent music teacher and vocal coach.
"My love for teaching began in 2004 when I got hired to do after-school music workshops at various elementary schools in San Jose, CA," Cruz said. "Then in 2006, my childhood vocal coach asked me if I wanted to teach private vocal lessons at a music school I attended in the past and I said yes. I fell in love with vocal coaching because it enabled me to help others succeed in their music goals."
As a performer and independent artist, she can identify with her students' struggles. In her lessons, Cruz welcomes all vocal styles and skill levels. She helps her students to strengthen tone quality, learn the right way to warm up and breathe and to increase their vocal range. Lessons also help students to polish and perfect their songs and prepare for auditions, talent competitions, or recording sessions. Students learn to improve their stage presence, connect with the audience and also how to gain performance opportunities. Her goals as a teacher are to help her students develop their true voices and musical selves.
"I hope my students can learn to embrace their true voice and apply the singing, performing, or songwriting techniques I taught them in present and future situations," Cruz said. "My mission is to help them become stronger, happier, and more confident singers, performers, and songwriters."
As well as vocal lessons, Cruz offers songwriting lessons, song evaluations and artist consultations. She loves being part of the music community.
"I enjoy meeting people who love music as much as I do," Cruz said. "I also love the fact that there is a community of musicians, singers, and performers who support, help, and encourage each other. I have some great friends in the music industry and we all watch out for each other."
Cruz believes that what makes her vocal lessons special is the fact that she loves to have fun while learning at the same time. Her students do her proud, as performers and as winners of numerous city, state, and global singing competitions including the KBLX 102.9 FM Rising Star Talent Competition South Bay Teen Idol, SJ's Got Talent, Greater Bay Area Talent Competition, and many more.
