Are you thinking about moving to the San Francisco Bay Area to raise a family? While there are many family friendly towns in the Bay Area and plenty of attractions to keep little (and big) kids occupied, there's more to finding the perfect town to raise a family in then just having local attractions to stay occupied. One must also consider the school system, the cost of living and various crime rates when looking for the perfect place to live and raise a family in the Bay Area.

Safety, health and overall education of children are primary concerns for most parents. Fortunately, there are many towns in the Bay Area that have superb education, relatively clean air quality, above average hospitals and health standards and lower than average crime rates. The most family friendly towns in the Bay Area are:

There's more to this area than technological startups and entrepreneurial advancement. Sunnyvale has a higher than average family income and some of the lowest crime rates in the entire country! Neighboring school systems in Fremont and Cupertino have seen some of the best standardized test scores in California and in 2012, there were two elementary schools directly in Sunnyvale that were named "Distinguished Schools" by the California Department of Education.

The public schools in Fremont have some of the highest test scores in the state of California and the area has seen a higher than average growth rate over the past ten years. Fremont was previous named the 5th best city to raise kids by Children's Health Magazine due largely in part to the overall good air quality index and the greatness that this area offers in terms of health and education.

Located in Santa Clara County, Cupertino boasts excellent schools and a median household income that is above average for the state of California. A higher than normal cost of living does make this area a less affordable options for families but if cost of living is not a major concern, Cupertino is a great small town with a big educational offering for children.

Boasting plenty of green space including Hamilton Park, Lincoln Park and Shoreline Park as well as many others, Alameda is an excellent Bay Area town to raise a family in. Housing comes in relatively high when compared to some other Bay Area towns but education is pretty good, crime rates are well below average and a slow paces makes for a great family atmosphere. If you're looking for a more relaxed atmosphere, Alameda is the way to go.

A low crime rate, plenty of waterfront living and parks, and higher than average Elementary School scores make Albany an excellent Bay Area town for raising a family. The housing is about average for the Bay Area but diversity is relatively sparse which is one downside here. Fortunately, there is thriving business along Solano Avenue which offers some exciting stores and restaurants for families to visit in their downtime.
