South Bay Sports Training Helps Baseball Players Reach Their Full Potential

By Pamela Sosnowski

Whether one aspires to make it to a professional league or just be able to hit more home runs, South Bay Sports Training (SBST) provides all of the coaching and training equipment that a youth baseball player needs to improve their performance. Located in San Jose, SBST is a 26,000 square-foot, three story level indoor training facility that allows baseball and softball players of all abilities to practice their techniques year-round, no matter what the weather outside may be.

The facility's motto is "For the player by the player", and that's because all of the coaches have years of field play under their belts, some at the professional level. "Our coaching staff really separates us from the competition," says the president and owner, Tony Sanguinetti. "All of our coaches have played college and/or professional baseball. Many of which are also current high school coaches. Our staff can relate with today's players and teach the game at its highest level." Sanguinetti in particular signed with the Seattle Mariners in 2006, and before that played with the Richmond Roosters of the Frontier League. Opening the academy was a way of fulfilling his passion of giving back and teaching other players how to reach their full potential on the field.

SBST provides a clean, comfortable, and fun environment for players and parents that wish to wait while their children practice. The building provides bright lighting, free wireless Internet, multiple television screens, a snack shack, retail showroom, and pro shop. Coin-operated batting cages feature new iron mike pitching machines and ball speeds that range from 40 to 90 MPH. Players also have the option of training with a real person for live batting practice.

Training ranges from private lessons to team training, as well as camps and clinics. Private lessons focus on teaching and fine-tuning one specific baseball skill such as hitting, pitching, catching, fielding, sports performance, and vision training.

SBST also offers college placement services, for the athlete that is serious about achieving baseball scholarships. Over the past 9 years SBST has had the most professionally drafted players and has helped more players make their high school baseball teams in freshman year than any other baseball academy in the Bay Area. Competitive travel teams at the junior high and high school level, such as Kali Baseball, are run out of SBST. "We have also teamed up with Milwaukee Brewers scout Nate Trosky to run the Northern California division of Trosky Baseball," says Sanguinetti. "We've had the luxury of helping 350+ players achieved their dream of playing college baseball."

Additionally, the academy is a local baseball and softball apparel and equipment provider that sells everything from top brand name uniforms to player's gears. Online ordering will soon be available on the site at
