Atmani Tours Combine Yoga And Wine Tasting To Awaken All The Senses

By S. Mathur

Atmani Tours is more of a calling than a business for owner Hermine Iacobaeus. Her yoga practice is based on bringing the five elements into balance.

"My inspiration comes from a deep connection with the five elements: ether, air, fire, water and earth," she said. "Plus my endless fascination of plants as our teachers. Wine is one of the oldest sacraments in the world and I remind people how to work with it and how to balance the element of fire in your system."

Originally from Sweden, Iacobaeus studied hotel management, tourism and economics in Finland and Dubai, before coming to the US. In Sonoma County, she found a place that felt like home. Working as a wine maker assistant, tasting room manager, wine club manager and event coordinator and in wine sales, she learned about wines and the wine country. She also trained as a yoga teacher, and found a way to share her passions and knowledge by opening Atmani Tours in 2016.

Atmani Tours begin at 9 am with an hour of outdoor yoga overlooking the vineyard. The exercises follow a gentle flow which require no previous yoga experience, and are intended to awaken all the senses. This is followed by an estate tour, which is itself not a typical one.

"We get an in-depth education of organic vineyard philosophy and sustainable wine making," Iacobaeus said. "After the tour we will enjoy a food and wine pairing with local delicacies."

The tours take guests to two or three sustainable wineries, which are organic or biodynamic or both. Most offer tastings by invitation only and Atmani Tours is one of the few ways to visit. Organic wineries use only grapes that have not been treated with any synthetic pesticides, fungicides, insecticides, or fertilizers. These are better for the environment, since they don't put any poisons into earth or water. They're also better for human health. Group size is limited to 10, and tours can be customized for birthday parties, bachelorette parties and more.

Apart from the yoga and wine tours, Iacobaeus also offers private yoga sessions.

"I teach from the heart," she said. "I feel rather than think while teaching. I'm trained in Hatha yoga and therapeutic yoga but I blend my wisdom and teachings from my personal life journey as a Ayurveda practitioner, multiple skydiving world record holder, energy worker, plant medicine student, wellness coach, tour guide, sommelier, artist and as a world explorer."
